Baptista formally taught English 8 and has now moved up to English 1 Honors. There is a noticeable difference in having different levels of classes and different age groups of kids. She says, “There is much stronger school spirit.” The change from regular to honors classes gives a different perspective on the kids she teaches, Baptista says, “I see more studiousness, it does seem like students are more serious and focused.”

Classes have such wide varieties of kids who won’t all learn the same. Baptista says “I like to have competitions in my class.”

She says, “I have my students sit in teams, they have team names, and every couple of classes we’ll have a team competition, and I’ll put their names on the board.”

Outside of school, Baptista is a mom and plans on taking her kids to Football games with her as she says, “My taught high school and so I remember going with her to Football games, which is why I want to bring my kids.”

Furthermore, She also enjoys knitting and writing, “I like to knit things and I have kids which is what I do mostly outside of school. I have a master’s degree in poetry, so I do some writing sometimes.”

Baptista says that she’s glad to be at the school and that, “There is a lot more effort to make sure everyone feels included.” On top of that, a lot of the students she taught last year are also in her class this year. She says, “It’s been good to talk to kids about their different middle school experiences and to hear about their different honor’s experiences.”
