Sophomores from Redwood High School’s thoughts and feelings on their first year of being able to go off campus for lunch.
Lunch is something that all students look forward to as soon as the bell rings to end the 4th period. All students are given a 40-minute break and are given access to food on campus and off campus, except for the Freshmen.
Sophomores waited their entire freshman year to have the privilege of going off campus for lunch. JJ Quinn, ’29, says, “It feels a little more free; I have more freedom to go out and eat what I want.”
Being able to eat off campus allows students to have a greater variety of things to eat for lunch. But don’t jump to conclusions and believe it’s better than Redwoods’ lunch.
The food off campus costs money compared to the free food available to students on campus. Jacob Long, ’29, said, “Only sometimes because lunch may be overpriced at some places, but others are cheaper.”
The school’s lunch is good and healthy, but rangers still decide to go off campus to spend their money on fast food, considering the food being served at Redwood costs nothing.
In addition, the closest food places near campus are Downtown Visalia, where many people walk, and it usually gets packed.
Quinn says, “I feel like it depends on if you drive or not. If you don’t drive, I do not think it is that much worth it, but if you do drive, I feel like it is.” Being able to drive allows students with a driver’s license to have more options for where to get lunch, such as Mooney Blvd.
Sophomores were very excited to have the ability and freedom of going of campus for lunch. So, Freshman class of ’30, start looking forward to lunch next year.
