After Redwood Varsity Football starts the season with a 31-21 home loss against Centennial, another challenge awaits them heading into the game against the Clovis North Broncos on Friday, August 30th at 7:30PM.
Enrique Segura, ’26, says, “Limit our mistakes cause we are a really young team and going against these higher teams we got to be almost perfect, and we weren’t against Centennial so that’s something that we got to fix going into Clovis North.”
Segura had a team-high 16 tackles last week against Centennial.
Perfection is a key idea that the team has in mind going into the next game.
Brody Preisendorf, ’24, adds “Clovis North is a tough team but I feel like we can win it, and how we’re gonna win it is with no mistakes made. Practice is the time where we need to make mistakes and by Friday we need to be sharp and ready to go.”
With such little time in between games, practicing hard has been the focus and the key dynamic for the Varsity Redwood Football team this week.
Gabriel Ward, ’25, says “We need to minimize our mistakes and really be on our top game.”
Segura says, “We’ve been preparing by being very locked in and toned in because Clovis North is a great team, they are ranked in the state. Also being very physical too because they are big boys so we have to play up to their physicality.”
Even with challenges and extreme work that the team is going through before game day, hope within the team still remains.
Ward says “I feel that we are pretty connected as a team and have a good chance at winning.”
