Assistant softball coach, Aaron Konishi, has been coaching the JV softball team for 5 seasons. According to Konishi, the upcoming season is looking strong, especially with the new freshman coming in.
“We’ve had a great turnout at tryouts this year; its the largest freshman class since I’ve been here.” Konishi is looking forward to having such a large team because, “It will allow us to keep a larger squad in case of injuries or Covid.” The Redwood softball team is always good, but Konishi says, “The talent level is especially high this year. I expect both teams to be highly competitive.”
Women’s Softball tends to play some tougher schools, but Buchanan is really going to be tough to beat. “Our opener is Buchanan, it doesn’t get any tougher than that.” Konishi goes on to say, “We’ll play the Clovis schools in a couple tournaments as well which will give us a challenge.” In league, Coach Konishi thinks that El Diamante will be the girls biggest competition.
Even with an incredible team, there is always things to work on. “At the JV level, one of the things we can work on is situational awareness.” Konishi goes on to say, “From things as simple as knowing how many out there and knowing where to throw the ball.”
Suriyanna Pasos, ’25, says, “I’ve been dreaming of making the team for a while now, and actually being able to do that has been surreal.” She goes on to say, “Coach Aaron is very uplifting, and you can tell when he wants us to do better, because he wants the best for us. It’s nice to know that there’s a coach that is always gonna be there for you.” According to Pasos, Buchanan is going to be a difficult team to beat, as well as Whitney.
Even though there might be some tough teams to beat, a team led by Coach Aaron Konishi is sure to be a success this season!
