As school has resumed, students are eager to use their privilege of going off-campus. Jimmy John’s is just one of the many popular lunch spots among Redwood students.
Jimmy John’s originated in Illinois and opened up for business in 1983. As of today, the famous sub chain has over 2,000 locations, including one on Main Street in Visalia.
With the sub chain being down the street from Redwood, many students have expressed how it is one of their go-to when eating lunch.
Hazel Green, ‘24 is one of many who have never experienced an off-campus lunch until now. She explains how she takes initiative to fulfill her privilege.
Green explains that “it feels good because [she] skipped freshman year due to covid so [she] just got to eat at [her] favorite places this year.”
Ethan Hernandez, ’24 says, “it feels pretty good to go off-campus for the first time, especially since it’s a privilege to be able to go get the food that I want”.
For some other students, being able to access Jimmy John’s is a change in the usual routine. Elijah Backlund, ‘24 says, “I bring my lunch sometimes but it’s nice to get something different once in a while.”
“I like the sandwiches there and I’m really glad it’s close to school, ” adds Hernandez.
For Ashton Fajardo, ‘23 Jimmy John’s makes “[him] feel happy because [he doesn’t] need to eat the school food. ”
Jimmy John’s gives the energy and nutrition needed for Rangers to continue with their day at school including extracurricular activities.
“At Jimmy John’s, I got the Billy club. I get it because it has a lot of meat, and I’m usually hungry from working out and playing sports,” adds Backlund.
