The Redwood varsity team has quite the squad, with a total record of 4-2 after their win over the Porterville Panthers.
The Rangers found a lot of offensive success against the Panthers. One of the main contributors to this success is senior running back Jimmie Burk, ’26, who averages over 130 rushing yards per game.
Burk had 190 rushing yards on just ten carries against the Panthers. Burk says “My mindset really was just to play, just play my game and follow the game plan my coach had for us, just go in there and win the game.”
On the offensive side of the game plan was to attack this Porterville defense, Burk said that the team, “went more for a passing game, and we did that to open up the run. So I am kind of glad that happened because I wouldn’t have had that game if we didn’t open up.”
Football is one of the most physical sports, but also a very technical one.
On whether this game was won with physicality or technicality, Burk says, “I think it was more of both because if we hadn’t had none of that, we would have probably gone downhill after the second quarter, but with all of our coaching, we kept it going.”
“We still had a strong mindset, and our coaches let our team play all together,” said Burk.
After Friday’s game, Jimmie Burk now has a whopping 806 rushing yards on 96 carries, averaging 8.4 yards per carry and a total of 10 rushing touchdowns on the season.
Burk says that his mindset for the rest of his senior year season is, “To keep on going, to keep on getting more rushing yards and everything else.”
