On Friday, November 14th, the Rangers battled the San Luis Obispo Tigers in what would end up becoming a dominant 54-0 shutout win for the Rangers, the star of the show being Jimmie Burk, who now holds the school season rushing record.

Jimmie Burk, ‘26, had a chance to break the record at Cowhide, but had to leave the game due to a minor injury.
On whether he had any doubt that he wouldn’t break the record, Burk says, “No, I had no doubt, I knew that my trainer would be helping me out through this whole thing, and making sure I was perfectly fine. With my O-Line and my coaches helping me throughout the whole thing, making the right play calls, and making sure we win this game was all part of the plan.”
On what it was like to break the school rushing record, Burk says, “Just taking it day-by-day, making sure we have the best practice that we can have all this week, making sure we are prepared for this game, and I’m glad we gave the O-Lineman that we have, because they’re some of the best in the valley.”
A lot of Burk’s success on the ground comes from finding balance on the edge and breaking his way through tackles. He does this by “Just trying to go for the touchdown every play, no matter what, even if there’s someone on me, I would just try to drag them as far as I can and try to score.”
The team as a whole did great, pitching a shutout. How it is to see the team play great as a whole, Burk says, “It feels great, I’m glad that our team played like this, and I knew we were gonna play like this from the practices we have and from all the stuff that we are talking about, making sure we’re on the same page. I knew it was going to happen.”
After Burk broke the record, they stopped the game to recognize this great achievement. Burk says the moment “was very fun. I didn’t think they were gonna do that because they were saying, ‘Oh, you only got five more rushing yards, just go get it.’”
Burk thought they wouldn’t stop the game to recognize him, but they did, and he says, “It just felt so cool. It felt great to be in that moment.”
Redwood will play away against Bakerfield on Friday, November 21st. Burk’s outlook on this upcoming game is, “Just take it day-by-day, make sure we get ready for the game, and make sure we practice as hard as we can, and just play the best football that we can ever play.”
