Jersey Hays, ’21, has been cast as the lead character, Winnifred, in the upcoming musical Once Upon a Mattress. Last year she played the role of Jojo in Seussical the Musical. She has a lot of experience when it comes to musicals. She has been doing plays and musicals since she was 5 years old. Hays says, “I was honored when the cast list came out and I was given the opportunity as a underclassman to be the lead.” Her character Winnifred is someone who is very determined and doesn’t let anyone bring her down. She brings a lot of humor and positivity to the show with her “hopeless romantic” attitude.
Throughout the show you watch more of her personality come out as she interacts with her love interest, Prince Dauntless. The best part of acting for Hays is the audience. She loves being able to see their reactions to certain things she has practiced numerous times at rehearsals. Jersey is very excited and ready for the performances and other cast members have rehearsed long hours for this show to be great.
