All the new club creators speak on to what to expect and why their club is the place for you.
As the new school year has started it is about that time for Redwood students to choose from the many clubs that the school has to offer. This year many students have introduced new clubs in hopes to gain students on Club Day to share their ideas to all.
The RHS Pickleball Club is one of many clubs that is being introduced to the rangers this year. The club was created by Aaliyah Jensen ‘24 and Ellie Gilbert ‘24 in hopes to be more involved with school.
Every club has been created with an intention and a drive. Jensen says, “Ellie and I have been playing pickleball all summer and we thought it would be really fun for everyone to get involved and do something outdoors.”
With this club the two hope to, “For the most part at least once or twice have people come to plaza and play pickleball together, even if you never played before it would be so fun,” says Jensen.
The Pickleball Club’s hopes are to gain members and keep their club alive for more graduating classes to come.
The Sports Debate Club is ready for interactions and conversations. Cody Abney ‘25 was created “for a chance for the people who love sports to come together”.
With more and more people getting involved, a club is a great way to do so. “I haven’t been involved enough at school lately, which was my motive to start a club in my last couple years of high school,” says Abney.
The Sports Debate club is simple with debating about any sports topic there is to cover. Each meeting will have one topic for members to discuss and debate.
Redwood’s Breakfast Club is one of the many ways to meet new people on campus. Magnus Burgess ‘24 is the president and founder of the Breakfast club.
Burgess says, “this club will consist of eating breakfast, meeting new people, and hanging out.”
The club will meet about every month to sit and eat while getting to know peers around them. This gives a chance for all Rangers to come together and get to connect.
Burgess hopes to keep the “Breakfast Club” successful by constantly bringing in underclassmen to keep it going in the following years.
Beat of the heart originated this year with Evan Galley ‘24 at the head of it. The club will consist of, “discussions on various heart diseases, connecting with people fighting these diseases and raising money for necessities for kids.”
Clubs are created for all different kinds of reasons. Galley has had experience with heart disease within his family and has felt the effects of it.
He says, “I created this club to raise awareness of all kinds of heart diseases, and to create a community for people who struggle with this or know someone who does.”
Galley hopes to keep his club going through, “ encouraging our members to engage and interact with people who either fought heart disease or are educated in the cardiology field.”
Cultural Food Club is a chance to get everyone involved and bring a bit of themselves to the table. Beatrice Sanjaya ‘24 has decided to go big and make an impact in her last year of highschool.
She says, “ I think food says a lot about different cultures that I would love to explore by different foods.”
Getting together to share something of your identity helps to knit the community. I would love to get everyone together and make a list of countries that we should cover. People are welcome to bring their own food from their own separate countries,” says Sanjaya.
Meeting new people is really the target of the club. She says, “I know as long as everyone has fun, socializes, and meets new people, our club can be really successful.”
