Students for Climate Action (S4CA) is a club here at Redwood, but is open to all students around the county.
The club began in 2020, and regardless of Covid being an issue, the club was still able to complete many successful projects. The club has even been contacted by other clean-up organizations from around the area that have wanted to collaborate with them.
Nizhoni Kears, ‘22 and Jasmine Luna, ‘22 are both co-presidents of the club. Kears talks about some of their previous activities, and says that her favorite clean-up “has by far been [their] Rio Limpio on the Tule River.”
Luna goes into detail about the Tule River clean-up, and says the owners of Wild Places in Springville rented out an area to the club for them to use.
They were able to use their “outside connections,” so they could have an area after their clean-up to “have lunch there… and discuss what they learned from the trip,” says Luna.
Secretary, Donya Akhavon, ‘23 is one of the newer members of the club. She says “part of the role of this club is to tell people that we all have a place in preserving our world and our earth.”
As a new member, as well as officer, Akhavon seems to be enjoying the club, and not only the movement behind it, but also the community the club has formed.
S4CA is a way for kids to help out the environment. Akhavon believes “a lot of kids these days are so aware of what’s going on because of media… I think a lot of them really want to help, but they just don’t have an outlet to.”
S4CA is still open to new members and anyone who is interested in helping the environment are welcome to join.
If you’re interested in the club, you can find more information on their Instagram: @students4climate_visalia. The club has lots of activities planned for the future and are ready to continue to make a positive impact on this earth.
