As we all know, Redwood hosts its very own Annual Haunted Asylum on our Vista campus, hosted by the link crew and for the first time the Unity house club. They have been keeping this tradition alive for over 10 years but this is not the first time they have done a haunted asylum.

Every year is something different, the students in link crew get to draw out an idea for what theme they want to do around a month before the actual set date and start working on it.

When speaking to to the head leader Mrs.Wall and she stated ”It takes about three weeks for the students to make the posters, props, costumes, getting all of their parts down, and anything else that they have to get done”.

The hard part about setting up and getting everybody’s part down on where they are supposed to be is a very difficult job to do in only 3 hours, only after school until 630 when it starts. They used to do the haunted houses in the academic building but when Wall became the head leader of the link crew she decided to make it on the Vista Campus.

The carnival games and food was a delight as well. The club Unity house helped with the carnival games and taking pictures, etc. The link crew so I am sure they were very grateful for their generous act of kindness. As for the food and drinks, CTE participated in that and sold the food to the kids, who grew hungry from all that scaring. Drinks to the ones who were running scared from the horrifying asylum.

CTE is actually not a part of the link crew and it was just a fundraiser to help make money for good causes. The first 190 freshman got in for free and those who did not make it had to pay 2$ for entry, it was surely saving them money. There was about 450 paid entrances so that resulted in 900$, not counting the other fundraisers around.

The money that is made from this project goes straight back to the students, the freshman to be exact. In the upcoming years, it helps pay for the food they get in the freshman orientation and for the food at the freshman tailgate.
The workers had to stay at school all day, then stayed after school to set up for the asylum, and then had to stay after everybody has gone through to clean up everything, now that is dedication. The acting was very good, the pop ups from behind, the side, and the front was a very exciting thing to witness.

There were patients on the ground, running, on the table begging for help, screaming, a clown waiting for at the end of the hall, and just as it couldn’t get any better, a lunatic with a chainsaw is waiting to chase everyone out of the door. It is amazing high school students can produce such an outstanding haunted house each year for many to enjoy.

Many students who visited the asylum believed it to be an 8/10 and would highly recommend for other people to go if they had the chance. Most of the students went in twice because of how good it was. The students were asked what their favorite part about the whole thing and they could not decide between the pop ups from behind and beside, the clown, or the chainsaw man.

To most of the students the clown waiting for them towards the end of the hall might have been the scariest part. When I was talking with Mrs.Wall i asked her on how she thought the asylum would turn out. She said,”I was a little worried about the kids doing it, but at the end of the day they met their expectations and I am very proud of them.” Many teachers said that “students came up to us with many compliments on how good it was”. Link crew killed it this year with their freaky, creepy, and spooky haunted house.
