Redwood’s Girl’s Water Polo Team won against Liberty High with a score of 18-2 at the Redwood Pool on Tuesday.
Clare Gonzalez, ’24, was sadly out on the bench due to an injury, still she speaks for the team when she says, “We made sure that we didn’t run up the score too much just to keep everything civil.”
The girls had good strategies and worked together throughout the team, which can explain their 16 point difference final score.
Gonzalez says, ” Overall we did well we were in a bunch of defensive and offensive plays. We were just fine tuning some things like where to guard, who to go on, and what to do when you have a counter attack.”
When asked what they did to prepare this season Gonzalez says, “There was a club that was run by the coaches in summer. I think everyone got some experience because that’s important.”
Gonzalez says, “You can just jump in the pool and play water polo, but if you don’t have experience knowing the game then you won’t do well.”
Redwood’s energy never came to an end, defense and offence worked together and cheered each other on, even after the game.
Riley Yagle ’24 was asked how she felt about Tuesday’s game, she says, “There were multiple feelings throughout the game, but it was really fun.”
Yagle says, “It was a good game to connect to the team because it helped us practice a lot more and there was a lot of energy throughout the game.”
From last week to this Tuesday Yagle was asked if she felt like she improved, she says, “Yes, I made two more goals than I did the last game and I felt like I was a lot better as a teammate. I personally did better with more skills and being able to be there for my team.”
