On Monday, October 23, Redwood’s very own Girls Varsity Golf team won Valley for the first time in Redwood history!
This golf season was particularly special to Redwood Rangers. Girls golf has never won valley before and after working so hard, they finally pulled it off and won.
Lily Stetson, ’21, says that, “It feels really good to win valley because we worked really hard for this and we’ve practiced a lot and gave our best effort.” Stetson said that the best part was when they found out that they won. They were all very excited and couldn’t believe that they won.
Rylee Santiago, ’22, was very excited to win valley her first year at Redwood. Her goal is to win first overall next year. She said that her scores have improved drastically from the beginning of the season starting in the high 80’s and moving into the high 70’s by the end of the season. She hopes to get her scores down to the low 70’s as she continues to grow.
The team practices every day for about an hour and whenever they can on the weekends. The amount of dedication that the girls have given has helped them win valley for sure. Winning Valley for the first time is such a big deal that they are going to be recognized in assemblies and they will be given rings as well. The girls golf team definitely made a statement at Redwood High School.
Most of the girls started off the season pretty rocky, but worked their way back up to the top and took it all the way to win valley. Especially since Redwood and Golf have been around for so long and no one has won valley until this year. It is pretty exciting.
Halle Arellano, ’19, and Sabrina Bianco, ’19, both feel that since they are seniors, winning valley was a great way to sign off for their four years of golf and high school. “You could definitely tell that we were super excited and it felt like our hard work payed off.” Ashley Wainwright, ’20, is really proud of the team and feels like this is a big accomplishment. It is something she will remember forever.
Mr. Sozinho was there watching our golf team and he feels that the girls all played pretty smart and seemed really comfortable. ¨It was really fun for me to see them celebrate their win.¨ It was a very special day for our Redwood girls golf team. Hopefully we can continue this winning streak next year.
