Having a new pet in the current times can be a lot of work but also a lot of fun.

Before Covid19 came, people were most likely to be at school or work a lot meaning the animals would not get a lot of attention. However, with the current circumstances, quarantine means having a lot of time to play with a new pet.

Elise Hyde’22 has recently gotten a bernidoodle (Bernese mountain dog mixed with a poodle) named Maggie. Her brother and sister have been begging for one for the past 3 years. Hyde joined in the begging because when quarantine hit she would really be able to ” enjoy the puppy’s adorableness.”

Being at home for so long can really be beneficial for spending quality time with a new pet. Also, more time to train the pet (fewer accidents with more practice).

However, training a new animal is never easy. Accidents and messes are bound to happen. Hyde says having the puppy can be stressful at times like when they were potty training her.

A new pet can lead to a new bond between a person and an animal. The pet could possibly be your new best friend.

Having the dog has “overall lifted the whole family’s spirit” because they are always excited to play with her. Maggie loves to play with string so Hyde usually drags a piece of string around the house to see Maggie follow.

Hyde says her family would still have gotten a puppy even if they weren’t in quarantine because her family has been wanting one for so long.

Not only would you be helping yourself out by getting a new companion, but you would help out animal shelters. Many shelters are full so not all the animals get the attention they deserve. If you adopt you are giving the animal a home and family.

Hope this makes you think about getting a new pet!
