The Future Healthcare Professionals [FHP] club holds their first meeting of the semester. Members took a club photo and discussed possible fundraiser ideas.
The FHP club focuses on finding students who are interested in the medical field and would like to pursue a career in medicine.
Club president Laiba Hassan ’23 says the club also aids in “educat[ing] other people that there’s not just nurses and doctors”.
Hassan says, “There are so many people in the back office and so many other jobs in the medical field.”
As President of the club, she says finding volunteer opportunities has been difficult, “With being president I feel like the biggest challenge, cause this club started during Covid, has been finding volunteer opportunities.”
Hassan is pursuing the medical field to become a neonatologist or pediatrician. She advises students interested in the medical field to join. “We also are focusing on the community and spreading awareness,” she says.
During the meeting, possible fundraisers and activities were proposed by the club officers and members.
Advisor Mrs. Sanchez says she hopes to restart the tradition of having a different guest speaker each month.
Sanchez says, “Right now, trying to get connected with healthcare professionals is a little difficult.”
Sanchez says she hopes to “work a little bit closer with the ASB and the blood drives” run by students. She wants to volunteer at different healthcare facilities as the semester continues for the club.
Despite this goal, Sanchez says, “…because of Covid there’s more strict rules and healthcare regulations.”
As she advises students interested in joining, she says, “You don’t have to be a doctor or a nurse to get involved in healthcare”.
