From pep rallies to new activities, ASB (Associated Student Body) members reveal how they plan to make the upcoming school year one students won’t want to miss

As students settle into a new school year, ASB is already planning ahead with new ideas designed to make this year memorable and more fun for everyone on campus.
Kadence Hetherington the Spirit Coordinator, ‘28, says her plans for ASB this year are, “Definitely making sure everyone just feels supported and like they’re seen. And so just bringing that spirit, bringing that hype in our rallies, our student sections, and for everything, just to bring everyone together.”
This year, ASB wants all students to feel more hype at the rallies and feel more united with their school and their peers at ASB events with the plan of a year full of events that give students even more ways to get involved.
Hetherington has also seen a decrease in school spirit through the last couple of years and she feels that she wants that kind of school spirit back at the school.
She said, “My sister went to high school a few years ago, and seeing how different the spirit was when she was here and how people were involved in the dress-up days and games and everything. I definitely kind of leaned towards that, because the community was so good. So I definitely feed off that energy and.. try to just live by bringing the spirit.”
Hetherington really likes being a part of school spirit and loves to hype the students up with an energy that is magnetic and contagious for others.
A lot of the ideas come from the students, but the group relies on Mr. Siqueros, the ASB director, to give them the support and guidance they need, so they can turn those ideas into events for the school community.
Greyson Galley, ‘30, another ASB student, said, “Mr. Siqueros just holds us accountable and that’s our motivation, him pushing us and encouraging.”
That support comes as ASB prepares for a busy school year, with plans ranging from Homecoming to Ranger Week and more opportunities for students to get involved.
To bring that goal to life, ASB is looking at ways to make rallies more interactive and increasing student engagement with new games also.
Ava Dodson, ‘28, the Rally Commissioner said one of the biggest goals is to making sure students enjoy their time at school, “I just want students to have fun. Like, we only have four years here, and I feel like if you’re not having fun, then you’re not doing it right.”
According to Dodson, ASB is also considering adding more rallies throughout the year, including a possible winter rally when students return from break.
Adrian Lopez-Guzman, ’27, ASB president says in the next six weeks their plans are to focus on, “The football games, and we’re working very hard. We’re already working on our next week’s football game, the Space Ranger theme. So come check that out… But mainly homecoming. Homecoming is such a big project that we have. It’s going to be huge when it actually comes out, and we’re hoping that everybody loves our theme and our actions, like once we have it done.”
Lopez-Guzman wants to focus more on the sports that do not get as much attention, like golf, water polo, or volleyball by sending out at least one photographer per game so they can have the pictures to show on the RHS page.
This year, ASB is watching out for what works and what they need to change to get students more hyped for the rally and they implement it into the next ASB event or game.
Lopez-Guzman also says, “I want students to feel included. I want them to feel that they’re seen on this campus because they are part of our community as Redwood. Every single person, from the tallest kid to the shortest kid, you know, like everybody’s included in here, and I just want them to feel that love and respect, and just want them to be happy to come to school.”
