Freshman Art Club member wins t-shirt contest and talks about when she got into art, why she joined art club, and her inspiration for her design.
Redwood’s Art Club held a contest this year in order to make a club shirt design. This tradition was started last year, and is now being passed down to a new generation of Ranger Artists.
Club member, and this year’s contest winner, Isabelle Wu ‘26, comments on her victory and her background on her art.
Wu says, “ever since I was a child I’ve always liked art.” She decided to join art club because, she says, “since going to college, art isn’t really what colleges look for so i’m trying to do music next year but i still want a chance to do art so i decided to join art club.”
The artist’s preferred medium (materials that are used in making art) is, “pens or sometimes markers or acrylic paint.” Everyone has a different medium in which they prefer, making each piece of art different and unique.
When asked about the inspiration for her design, Wu revealed that she “wanted to represent art club as well as our school.” She says that the, “patches around the edges is like Cowhide, and the dripping is like the paint”
Wu added a dripping like effect to her art, she says this represents, “(the paint is) whole but also fluid, there’s a lot of room to change.” Wu also included a final paintbrush to the design, she says it’s, “for artists, like their tool to present things.”
Being the winner of the t-shit contest, Wu was really excited about her victory. Wu says she was,“really happy, but [also] shocked, like really shocked.” This was a very important moment as it was really exciting to win a contest in something the artist had such a passion for.
Finally, Wu says, “I’m just glad I was able to join art club.”
Wu’s next step will be to move her design to a digital format, then eventually get it made into the official club t-shirt for art club.
