This year has been outstanding for our Freshman and Junior Varisty (JV) football teams. They performed great and dominated almost every opponent they played against. Let’s take a recap and look back at what happened this year.
For the first half of the season from 8/22-9/19, the Freshman team had a troubling start going 2-3. After the bye week, they started league play in the EYL and after the first three games alone, the freshman team scored 109 points against Porterville, Monache, and Golden West combined. Toward the end of the season, the freshman team turned the 2nd half around finishing 7-3.
William Jones, ’28, who played Left Tackle (LT) on the Freshman team, shared his thoughts about the season and said, “We were a good team, but there’s something that could have changed that would’ve gone better in the season.”
Jones also shared about the seconnd half of the season change from starting 2-3 to a perfect league record of 5-0 and said, “We weren’t playing our hardest, so we just had to train extra hard during our bye week, and then we came back.”
The JV team also had a troubling but stable start to the first half of the season, going 3-2 after the first five games after going against schools like Centennial, Hanford, and Tulare Western. Once the league started JV put up an incredible performance also going 4-1 in the EYL league and also finishing the season at a 7-3 record.
Diego Torres, ‘27, who played Defensive back (DB) on the JV team, shared his thoughts on the season and stated, “It went alright. We could’ve been better overall.”
Torres shared what could’ve gone better during the 2024 season and stated about communicating stating, “We could have communicated more on and off the field.”
As this year comes to a close, we can expect a new and improved team with new players coming in for freshmen and improved players from JV stepping up next year to Varsity or ready to dominate again in the JV league next year in 2025.
Torres talked about whether he’s ready to move up to Varsity. He said “I’m ready with a little bit more practice.”
