On Wednesday, September 22nd 2021, chemistry classes had their first lab of the year.
Mrs. Bettencourt was very excited to have a chem lab after not being able to have one last year due to distanced-learning.
Madyson Merriweather ’23 says the lab was very enjoyable.
She says that it “felt good doing the chem lab because [she] was able to work with a partner and it was really fun doing something different than just writing and taking notes.”
Merriweather adds that she is a hands-on learner, so the lab gave her a “better understanding of what we are talking about in class.”
Something that surprised her during the lab was that for “ half of them, it didn’t really work for [her] and [her] partner.”
Merriweather ends by saying that her favorite part of the whole lab was being able to “light the flames.”
PJ Myers ’23 also participated in the lab, and he admits that the lab was scary at first “because the flame almost got one of us.”
Once he began to take it seriously, Myers “learned that the flames make different colors due to the heat and the different elements.”
Myers ended with something that surprised him about the chem lab: “The thing that surprised me was finding out that some substances actually have the same flame color.”
