Here’s the Five For Friday, asking five of Redwood’s cast for 2024’s musical ‘Mean Girls' what their favorite songs are from the soundtrack. 

Melina Carillo ‘25 has been participating in theater in high school since her Freshman year but has been in theater in total for 6-7 years. She plays as the French Teacher as well as the Mathlete Moderator. 

When she heard about what musical was going to be for this year she was thrilled.

“I was super excited because ‘Mean Girls’ is so iconic, it just is.”

Carillo’s favorite song from the soundtrack is ‘World Burn’ which takes place in the second act of the show. 

“I had to choose between ‘Sexy’ and 'World burn’ but I'm gonna have to go with world burn because her riffs are so good oh my gosh. Once you see it you’ll see how good it is.”

Isabella Medrano ‘25 has been in theater since her Freshman year of high school. She plays as ensemble. 

After hearing about Redwood was going to perform 'Mean Girls’ she said, “I felt really excited for the new experiences and the new cast.”

Medrano’s favorite song out of the music is ‘Someone Gets Hurt’ which takes place during the first act of the show.

“I think the vocals for Regina is really good and like it has a lot of impact on how she feels and how she manipulates Aaron.”

Robert Trejo ’24 has been in theater all throughout middle school and returned to theater in his Junior year. He plays as an ensemble.

When he heard about the musical for this year he said, “I thought it was hilarious and I wanted to continue doing theater because Junior year reminded me I really liked theater so I joined back and did it again.”

Trejo’s favorite song from the musical is ‘Sexy’ which takes place towards the end of act two.

“Going back to my previous point of the show being hilarious… The things in this song that it says is hilarious, you just have to see it. It's hilarious and it’s catchy.”

Whose House Is This?

Art Salazar ‘25 has been in theater since his Freshman year of high school. He plays as Mr. Buck the English teacher.

After hearing ‘Mean Girls’ was going to be the musical for this year he said, “I felt pretty excited because, well it’s ‘Mean Girls'. How can you not be excited for it? It’s so big and so funny and it's such a big thing in our culture.”

Salazar’s favorite number in the musical is ‘Whose House Is This?’ which takes place in the first act of the show.

“It brings a lot of energy and it's a higher point in the show. I say it’s really one of the fun points in the show. It’s a lot of energy, it’s loud.”

Lasty, Midnight Espinoza ‘25 has only been in theater for her Junior year of highschool as well as this is her first musical she’s ever done. She plays as ensemble.

When joining she said she felt nervous but it went away after getting to know the cast more. 

When she heard about the musical for this year she said was super excited to join.

“I'm glad this was the first thing I auditioned for.”

Espinoza’s favorite song from the soundtrack is ‘Meet the Plastics’ which is one of the first songs in the show. 

“The energy that the three girls put out while they’re singing it and how they act, even when they’re not singing, is just super iconic and is just an eye opener.”

That’s the Five for Friday bringing Redwood’s cast for 2024’s musical ‘Mean Girls' favorite songs from the musical.
