Here’s the Five For Friday, bringing you five songs you should add to your playlist. This week’s songs are songs that teachers listen to while grading.

Mr. McNitt has been teaching at Redwood for 6 years now and he teaches English.

When asked why he wanted to become a teacher he said, “I never knew a time where I didn’t want to become a teacher, it's just something I’ve always done. I like knowledge and I love sharing knowledge with other people.”

He could’ve picked any subject to teach but wanted to teach English and enjoys teaching his subject.

Mr. McNitt’s favorite song to listen to while grading is ‘Twenty Five Miles’ by Edwen Star.

“It talks about getting to a goal. When I’m grading I want to get to the end so I can go outside and be in the rest of my life.”

Mr. Rojas has been teaching Redwood for a year and he teaches Biology.

When asked why he wanted to become a teacher he said “I like helping people especially in subjects that I know so it feels nice, even from highschool or college, in college I was a tutor so it just made sense. I was still figuring it out one, two years in college and then I was like you know what, I'm already a tutor might as well see this teaching stuff.”

He enjoys teaching Biology because he can talk about anything.

“There’s so much Biology in everything we do.”

Mr. Rojas’s favorite song to listen to while grading is ‘Keyboard Suite in D Minor’ by Georg Friedrich Händel.

“It gives you a certain perspective of how boring it must’ve been but must not have been at the same time. Living way back when in the 1700’s, 1600’s and they composed such great orchestras and most of the names are centuries old and we’re still listening to their music.”

Mrs. Adalian has been teaching at Redwood for 6 years and teaches English and enjoys her subject.

When asked why she wanted to become a teacher she said, “My second grade teacher Miss Westgate was wonderful so I wanted to grow up and be like her and help people.”

Mrs. Adalian’s favorite song to listen to while grading is ‘Boogie Shoes’ by  KC and the Sunshine Band.

“It’s very upbeat and fun and I want to have a positive attitude while I’m grading. For the most part I enjoy reading my students' work so it’s all a positive experience.”

Mrs. Blair has been teaching at Redwood for 14 years and teaches Math.

“It was just something I always wanted to do ever since I was a little girl. I just always wanted to be a teacher. I don’t think there has ever been anything else in my mind.”

She loves teaching her subject, it being her favorite.

Mrs. Blair loves listening to one of her favorite artists Gavin DeGraw while grading.

“I just always have liked his music and the Pandora station I have it just plays many similar songs to him and a lot of those songs go back to my high school days too. I think I just like the mellow side of it because grading and things like that I don't want to get too distracted.”

Mr. Calixtro has been teaching at Redwood for over a year and teaches Math.

“I originally started working for the after school program at Mt. Whitney High School and I noticed kids struggled with math and math was  something I was good at when I was a student here, at Redwood High School. So because I was very compassionate and I saw the college aspect of it. I wanted to make sure that kids were successful in math. So I wanted to become a math teacher to make things easier for them hopefully.”

He enjoys teaching his subject because it’s one of the more difficult subjects out there.

Mr. Clalixtro’s favorite song to listen to while grading is ‘The Winner Takes It All’ by Mama Mia.

“I want to feel that, maybe my students might not learn all my concepts but hopefully i have some sort of impact in their life whether it be it’s okay to be who you are or it’s okay to be goofy at times or it’s okay to share how you feel and like be connected to your emotions. So when it comes to The’ it’s mostly for my own ego so i can feel good about myself because it can be draining at times.
