The week of Cowhide is one of the biggest spirit weeks for Redwood and Mt.Whitney. Each football player prepares in a different way to hype up themselves and the team for the big Friday night rivalry game.

Adam Judson, ‘25, played in his first and last Cowhide game on Friday, November 1st. Judson is the starting kicker for the varsity team.

Judson shared how he felt leading up to the game, “I’m pretty confident, once the game starts I’ll get some jitters, but I’m excited”.

Judson was asked why he decided to join the team this year and shared, “I’ve always wanted to play football, but my parents never let me play and they finally gave up on stopping me from playing, so I got to play this year”.

Landon Guenter, ‘27 played in his first Cowhide game last Friday. Guenter has a starting position as a defensive lineman for Redwood’s Varsity Team.

Guenter shared his favorite part of his first varsity season being, “The way the boosters spoiled us, because we got treated a lot better than how we were treated playing for frosh.”

When asked about a highlight from the season Guenter said, “I feel like by making a comeback, because I had a fractured hip and had to earn back my starting spot, was a good highlight of my season.”

Nathan Gonzalez, ‘27 is a corner on defense and shared that he prepared for the game by, “picturing the stands, it was my dream to be down there on the field and play this game and having that image in my head gets me going”.

Leading up to Cowhide Gonzalez was asked about his team’s energy level, “Obviously we’re more excited because Mt.Whitney is our biggest rival and if we win this game we take back the hide, so I think it’s going to be a fun game”.

Judson has wanted to play football and play in the Cowhide game ever since he was a kid and finally got the chance.

Judson shared, “when I was younger, in my backyard I would be like, ‘this is the catch to win Cowhide’, and now I get to live it.”
