FBLA is a club at Redwood who volunteered to serve at Salt + Light on November 20th. FBLA completed that by asking Salt + Light if they could come and bring items for the homeless. FBLA was there from 4:30 to 6:15.
Zoey Lovgren, ‘28, said, “Helping my community is very fulfilling. It feels like I’m giving something to the world.”
Lovgren shared that her favorite part “was meeting the pets and everyone’s children.”
Lovgren’s description of Salt + Light is, “I would describe it as a very cozy neighborhood, it is very welcoming and it feels like anyone could be a part of it if you wanted to.”
Salt + Light is a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of people experiencing homelessness by providing them a place to stay as well as giving them food and everyday needs.
Sehrish Hirani, ‘27, said, “Helping the homeless community makes not just me but the entire FBLA group feel really good about what we’re doing and how we’re impacting the community.”
When asked what made Hirani want to join, she said, “One of the vice presidents of community service, he had previously volunteered at Salt and Light and he kind of sparked that idea that maybe we should do an event with Salt + Light connected to FBLA, and that’s where it all started.”
Hirani told us what Salt + Light is. “Salt and Light is an organization that caters towards the homeless community by providing them with numerous amounts of resources.”
Von Borowicz, ‘27, said, “It made me feel good that I can do things for other people and give back to the community.”
It was a community service event where a few FBLA officers and members of the club participated at. FBLA gathered essential necessities to serve at the Salt + Light apartments for the homeless. The students left after school to set up a table in front of the homes where the homeless came up to the table and took what they wanted.
Stephanie Lam, ‘27, said, “My favorite part of serving the homeless was being able to help with the community. I volunteered because I was able to help out the people in need, [and] also knowing that I am doing something for a better cause.”
