On April 21, 2022, Dominic Nguyenn, ’24 won the WYL singles title in men’s tennis. Nguyenn says, “It definitely feels amazing and stunning to be the [WYL] champion. I’m really proud of myself for capturing the win in singles as a sophomore.”

He says the biggest challenge for him this season was his lack of confidence in his serves. He says, “Sometimes I’m just afraid of hitting the ball hard, which ends up creating an advantage for the returner and a huge disadvantage for me.”

There is a lot to say about this athlete, he really loves his sport. When describing tennis, Nguyenn says, “Tennis is a beautiful sport. The sound of the ball coming off the strings of your racket is one of the most pleasant sounds ever.”

Nguyenn says he was introduced to the sport by his dad when he was just five years old. He says, “[It’s] had my heart ever since.”

According to him, his dad has had the biggest impact on his career. He says, “[My dad] has been by my side through every step of my career. He’s also the best mentor that I could ever ask for.”

Nguyenn adds, “He taught me [how to] build my confidence in my tennis games, as well as think strategically and create and execute a vision.”

Nguyenn plans on furthering his career by playing D1 tennis in college. He says he’s looking to get scholarships and play high-level tennis at his dream college. A personal goal of his in the future is to get a PhD in Computer Science while still competing in high-level tennis.

Nguyenn says that he is looking forward to be playing in Valley this year, and he hopes he’ll be able to capture first place.
