As this week of long awaited Homecoming traditions continue, the Cowboys vs. Aliens dress-up day was one of the many ways students decided to show their Ranger spirit.

Following the Disney theme for this week, Cowboys vs. Aliens, inspired by Toy Story was the dress-up day for Thursday, September 9. Many students showed up, and showed out with the planning of their costumes.

Top 5 nominee, Brianna Abney, ‘22 is having her last ever Homecoming week at Redwood. Abney says, “[Cowboys vs. Aliens day] is different because [the school] usually stays safe, and chooses the same dress-up days, so I like this [day] a lot.”

Abney adds, “I really missed [dressing up] especially when we were in quarantine, so it’s really fun to get back out again.”

Nicole Puerner, ‘24 experienced her first in-person spirit week, “[She] chose to be an alien because [she] really likes the sparkles and glitter that goes with it, [she] also likes the bright colors.”

Puerner adds, “I was excited to take pictures with my friends, and just make memories with everyone.”

Freshman class President, Taylor Langford, ’25 dressed as a cowboy. She says, “Honestly, I just knew that I liked white and brown together for a cowboy outfit, so that’s what I chose [it].”

ASB member, Jonathan Luna, ‘24 chose to dress-up as a cowboy for the spirit day. “I was excited to see everybody’s outfits, and I liked to see the creativity behind the ideas of what aliens and cowboys would look like,” says Luna.

Another ASB member, Alia Backlund, ‘22 talks about the twists she added on to her costume, “I just thought because it was Disney-themed that I could be Jesse from Toy Story…. and I have red hair, so I thought it would be easy.”

Redwood teachers have too, missed out on Homecoming week and spirit days altogether over the duration of Covid.

Mr. Adams shares his feelings about seeing students show their Ranger spirit once again, “It is pretty much the most exciting moment in my life,” says Adams.

Homecoming spirit week ends off with “Rangerland” tomorrow, September 10, and the Homecoming football game to follow at 7:30 pm.
