Following the first meeting of the 2022-2023 school year, CSF begins its Fall semester membership drive and shares its plans for the future.

On August 18, Redwood’s California Scholarship Federation [CSF] chapter held its first meeting of the year in the library. This was the first meeting since the previous CSF advisor, Georgette Cheatwood, retired.

Details regarding the Fall semester membership drive were announced during the meeting.

Nicole Vieira, English 2 Honors and Advanced Placement [AP] Literature teacher, is CSF’s new advisor.

She thinks CSF is “a positive thing for students” and hopes to continue the “positive direction that Cheatwood had [students] on.”

Regarding Thursday’s meeting, she says “I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout. Lots of students were here. The officer team has been working really hard to plan a good year for CSF.”

The gym reconstruction has affected CSF meetings, as the club typically uses the gym for their meetings. Vieira says “not having a gym is not ideal”, but she thinks the library “worked fine.”

She adds, “That is a huge relief that we know, moving forward, that we’ve got a space that we can use for meetings until we have a gym.”

According to Vieira, the next meeting will be held in September. Details regarding meetings and community service opportunities are to be announced.

Unlike in past years, CSF will be holding its membership drive digitally.

Vieira says the process is similar to what students have done in the past. She adds, “It’s just all going to be digital and then they’ll upload their transcript rather than printing them.”

Students can access the Google Form by scanning one of the QR codes around campus or by using the link on CSF’s new Instagram: @rhscsf.

Vieira encourages all students to apply. She says, “I think [CSF is] just a positive atmosphere in terms of like encouraging each other to do well in school and get involved with the community.”

Applications are due Friday, August 26. Students must pay a $5 membership fee through the Finance Center [cash or card] or to Vieira in Room 208 [cash only].
