With 503 members this semester, CSF has hit its highest enrollment under advisor Mrs. Vieira. Ninety-six seniors have qualified for lifetime membership, reflecting their commitment to academic excellence and rigorous coursework. As CSF continues to expand outreach, the program is shaping students’ academic journeys while rewarding those who go the extra mile.

Staff Reports

Redwood High School’s California Scholarship Federation (CSF) has reached a new milestone, with 503 students qualifying for membership this semester—the highest number under advisor Mrs. Nicole Vieira’s leadership. Among them, 96 seniors have earned lifetime membership, an achievement that requires maintaining strong academic performance across multiple semesters.

For seniors like Emma Jenan, ’25, earning lifetime membership was a goal she set early on.

“I think that lifetime membership is just a really cool thing because it recognizes all of your hard work throughout the semesters,” Jenan said. “I’ve always wanted to get good grades, and finding out there was a program that acknowledged that was really exciting. Plus, having the golden cord at graduation is like a ‘yeah, I did it’ moment.”

On April 26, 2022, COS hosted a luncheon for the lifetime CSF members from Visalia High Schools. This is Redwood High School’s members on the stage receiving recognition from COS president Brent Calvin.

Lucas de Lima, ’25, echoed a similar sentiment, explaining that his commitment to CSF started back in middle school.

“I was part of CJSF back in middle school, so I knew when I got to high school, I wanted to join CSF as well,” de Lima said. “Being a CSF lifetime member means every semester, I showed up, did the thing, got the good grades, filled out the forms, paid the fees—and yeah, I did it.”

One of the perks of earning lifetime membership is reserved seating in the front row at graduation, something both students acknowledged as a fun bonus.

“It’s more fun than not being in the front row,” de Lima said.

CSF’s membership growth this semester is no accident. According to Vieira, expanded outreach efforts have helped boost student participation.

“I think CSF is working hard on outreach overall,” Vieira said. “Posting announcements and the application on Schoology, sending notifications home, and growing our social media presence have probably helped. It also helps when other popular accounts repost our stuff on their stories, so keep doing that! We appreciate the support from everyone.”

She also noted that efforts to engage freshmen and AVID students are an area for future growth.

Lifetime membership, she explained, is a reflection of a student’s ability to resist the temptation of an “easy” senior year.

“Lifetime membership is only earned by students who sign up for rigorous classes and succeed in those classes,” Vieira said. “I actually saw a significant shift this year in the transcripts I reviewed from seniors. I was honestly kind of blown away by the number of seniors taking AP classes. If earning life membership is important to a student, then CSF is one motivation to actually take real classes as a senior.”

As the program continues to grow, Vieira hopes CSF will remain a driving force in pushing students toward academic success.
