As Halloween gets closer, CSF [California Scholarship Federation] announces its annual Trunk or Treat for the October service project.

Almost every month, CSF has a new service project that members can sign up to get hours of community service.

For the past years, Trunk or Treat has been the service project for the month of October.

Erik Navarro, ‘25, the secretary for CSF says,  “For this month, we are doing a trunk or treat drive, we do it every year, where we basically just take the student parking lot and we just let anyone who wants to decorate their cars, just stand out there and give out candy to any kids. It’s a really successful event.”

Taking place in the Redwood student parking lot, students are able to decorate their car and give out candy to kids that come to the event.

President of CSF, Kaylene Garza, ‘25, says, “It was good seeing like all the little kids in their costumes and just everyone having fun. So this year we’re just kind of hoping for the same outcome. Like we just want people to get more involved and it’s just like a fun way to get in touch with the community, too.”

“It’s very fun. I like seeing all the costumes and I like seeing [how] all the cars are all decorated, and I just like seeing everyone being so festive,” Elle Pinheiro, ‘26, a Junior associate for CSF says.

Having open for the community, everyone is welcome. Parents can bring their kids to have a great time getting sweets by Redwood Students.

Navarro says, “We do it every year now and we get a great turnout. A ton of parents, students, and kids [are] involved, all of them like it, and they enjoy it, and it’s something that they all cherish. The week before, we do a candy drive where we just collect candy from any kids who want to donate, and then we use that candy during the day, [or] just to kind of give to kids, and it’s just a great time for the event.”

This year, the officer team of CSF is hoping for the same great outcome like last year’s Trunk or Treat, if not a better one.

Pinheiro says, “So, we’re hoping to first get a lot of candied donations from our students and CSF participate.”

To make sure that parents of elementary school students know about the event, members are sending out papers and putting up posters to spread the word, and that they should stop by that night.

“We’re sending out forms [and] posters to all the elementary school kids and [other] kids in the community to come and trick or treat in the student parking lot,” says Garza.

This year’s Trunk or Treat is on Monday the 28th, and the candy drive for members that are participating in the project is the week of the 21st through the 25th.

“So the candy drive is October 21st, [through] the 25th, and then the trunk or treat is on October 28th,” Navarro says.
