Creative design club was founded last year by Nathan Perez. Its members usually work on different projects ranging from posters and business cards to various digital creations.
The club is currently working on creating a digital design of a city. Nathan Perez ‘23, the president of the Creative design club, says, “Right now we’re working on this city design project, we’re calling it ‘Great City’s Exploration.”
Perez says, ”I find city design very important mostly because I’m pretty passionate about cycling. I love to bike everywhere, as not many Americans do anymore. But you can’t be very conscious of car dependency. I’ve always been a big fan of cycling and public transit.”
Perez wants to benefit his community, he says, “I’d like to pass the healthier mentality onto my friends and just have them become more aware of how cities can sometimes take advantage of them.”
The idea of creating this project came to Nathan a long time ago, ”This started as a less mature idea in elementary school when I rallied some friends together and told them about it, ‘let’s create the story of a nation through architecture and city design’, So it wasn’t as sophisticated as I like but reintroducing it with a more mature audience with an educational goal I hope to achieve something greater.”
This project is created with a Sandbox game Minecraft, Perez says, “We try to make all our projects in creative design very accessible, so instead of using something sophisticated we’re using Minecraft so everyone can get involved.”
When asked about the main goals of this project he says, “I hope to better educate my peers on how cities are designed. I’ve become very passionate about city design as I’ve decided that’s what I want to study in college.”
Eric Barrios ‘23, is also taking part in this project. Barrios says, “I’m most excited about designing my section of the city. I’m also excited to see the final result because who knows where this project will go.”
”My plans are just to have fun and to make my part of the city feel like a plan you could actually live in. My main inspiration are places like San Francisco and Victorian style houses” Barrios says.
Izzy Larsen, ‘23, says her main goal is, “To learn how city’s work and how much planning really goes into it. That there has to be a balance of differing aspects that make a city actually functional”.
Larsen says, “I’m really excited to see how this ends up looking. Nathan Perez has really put a lot of work into it and so I’m really looking forward to seeing this project of his and all of our collaboration become a final result.”
