Redwood High School’s Cowhide Shirt Contest returns after a year, allowing students to design and vote on their favorite shirts. Mason Perez won this year’s contest.

The Cowhide shirt contest is a staple of Redwood High School’s culture. Students design and then vote on their favorite shirt designs.
However, due to time constraints, ASB was not able to hold the contest last year as usual.
Hailey Aston, Redwood’s ASB advisor, says, “This year, we had a lot more time between Homecoming and Cowhide to get planning done and work with the printer.”
This year, a limited amount of shirts were sold to the general public through the Finance Center.
The winner of the contest, Mason Perez, ’27, says he feels “Pretty good.”
As the winner of the Cowhide shirt contest, Perez received a spirit pack containing a shirt with his design, a wristband, a cowbell, a pom pom, bam bams, eyeblack, and more.
On making the art, Perez said, “[I] just pictured it in my head and thought it would be cool, so I made it.”
Izek Nelson serves as Redwood’s ASB president. He says, “We’re very thankful for Mason Perez […] I think it’s a great t-shirt design.”
“I think it’s cool that it’s a student that designs [the shirt] and not the art class or ASB or a different group on campus,” Nelson says. “And I think it’s a great way to get people involved and see all the different designs that people make.”
