This year, Redwood celebrated the upcoming Cowhide game with an outdoor rally. This is Redwood’s first year hosting the traditional Cowhide assembly in the Bowl, open to students and parents.

Students participating in the rally were able to showcase all kinds of talent, from choir and Hip-Hop to even football joining in with their own dance. Audience members were able to see all of Redwood’s passion and skills at the night Cowhide rally.

First to perform was Chamber Choir as they performed the National Anthem, as well as the Alma Mater. Hip-Hop dance performed secondly, followed by International dance. Dance Force and cheer also showcased their talent, and finally, football performed a dance.

Band started off getting students excited, just like they do every football game. Raja Shouman, ’22 performed in the rally with band, “It’s like nothing else that I’ve experienced and I absolutely love it.”

Even with the differences this year, Shouman says, “I really enjoyed the changes in the rally… and we weren’t packed so tight in the bleachers of the gym,” she says comparing this rally to past ones.

Her passion for band was obvious in the performance. Shouman adds, “It’s my favorite time of year and is basically a holiday for Redwood.”

Chamber Choir performed as well- amazing students with their performance. Brooke O’Leary, ’22 missed performing live with choir since the pandemic, “I’m so happy we get to experience this again because I missed it so much,” she says.

Not only was the performance fun for O’Leary, but, “the people are so amazing… I feel so fortunate to get to kick-off each rally by singing,” she says.

She enjoyed the differences in the rally this year. She says, “What ASB is doing with the Bowl rallies is so, so great.”

The dancing performed by International impressed with their choreography and spirit.

International member Daniel Padilla, ’22 had a great time with the changes in the rally this year. He says, “I think it went great, and I think that we all went out and made it fun.”

The outside rally has its positives. Padilla adds, “I like both rallies, but I think that having a bigger crowd is more achievable when we’re in school.”

Redwood football players even joined in on dancing, and they had a great time.

Football player Ethan Griffiths, ’22 admits his feelings about the differences in the Cowhide rally, “the Bowl was cool because I feel like you can see everyone a little better than in the gym.”

Dancing in the rally this year, Griffiths was thrilled. “I think the performance was great and I think that everyone did a fantastic job,” he expresses.

Students enjoy preparing for the Cowhide game against Mt. Whitney every year by performing or watching the rally; even with the night event this year, students are thrilled to come and watch Rangers play to keep the hide home this year.
