On February 11th, 2025, an email was sent to all Redwood students stating that all club nominations for 2025-2026 had to be an active club from the 2024-2025 school year in order to meet the requirements needed.

On February 11th, Mrs. Aston sent out an email to all explaining the new regulations for the upcoming homecoming season. The new rules only affect clubs and do not affect sports teams or co-curricular activities.
The email states:
-Club must have been active during the 2024-2025 school year.
0The club must have hosted a minimum of two meetings during the 2024-2025 school year.
-The club must submit meeting minutes and attendance logs from both meetings by March 1, 2025, to haston@vusd.org.
Which limits the number of clubs that can nominate candidates for Homecoming Queen and King due to the increase in candidates over the years.
Mrs. Aston says, “The reason these rules are being put in place is to ensure that clubs are active and engaged in Redwood’s campus culture. In recent years, there has been a trend of students creating clubs at the start of the year, but those clubs never meet or hold activities.”
This led to inactive clubs nominating students for homecoming, which caused an increased number of nominations. Even when these clubs were made just to have the chance at being nominated for Homecoming.
“This year, the goal of these rules is to encourage clubs to hold meetings and activities while also preventing clubs from being created solely for the purpose of nominating someone for homecoming,” says Mrs. Aston.
With these new rules in place it helps build a greater standard for clubs and motivates students to be more involved.
Mrs. Aston says, “These rules are simply meant to keep the process fair and ensure that nominations come from clubs that are truly active on campus.”
