In October, we saw the inspiring nominations of Christian Huerta, ‘25, and Taylor Kelley, ‘25, as FFA Members of the Month, thanks to the thoughtful recognition from Mr. John Coon and Ms. Citalli Veloz.

Kelley received the award from Ms. Veloz for always willing to help others, being very dedicated, along with being involved.

Kelley said, “I was excited to get the award because I just got into FFA last year, so being able to get awarded for being in the club was really nice.”

“I’m sad because I wish I got to be in FFA longer, but it’s been a really great experience and I’m glad to have gotten to be in FFA,” said Kelley.

Ms. Veloz, the Ag teacher and FFA advisor, expresses her heartfelt pride in the success and growth of her student Kelley.

“Over the last few years of having Taylor, her performance habit has completely improved. She’s out of her shell, she helps all her friends and others in FFA. When it came to raising a lamb she was out there, she used to be shy.” Said Ms. Veloz.

“In class, she helps all my juniors and sophomores, and how to get all their assignments done and set,” said Ms. Veloz.

Huerta received the award from Mr. Coon for being an outstanding senior in the program. This recognition was the result of years of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.

Huerta said, “I feel proud, I feel like I’ve earned it. I’ve always wanted to be FFA member of the month, so I’m glad I finally got it.”

“It’s been amazing, it has taught me how to work hard, it taught me how to build stuff, and just taught me if I don’t get something right away, it’s okay to work at it and not stop,” said Huerta.

Mr. Coon talks about how Huerta’s passion for Redwood High School and being a Ranger shines through, making him a fantastic ambassador for the program.

Mr. Coon said, “He’s always had that world-class personality, but he went from being a student that was just sort of raw and green and like ‘how do I do all of this stuff’ to now he’s being someone that exemplifies it. He’s building a beautiful trailer out here in the shop in his advanced class, and when he is a TA, he is someone who is teaching the freshman how to get it done.”

Mr. Coon said, “Anybody out there that hasn’t gotten a chance to meet Christian yet, you ought to, because he’s one of those people that you don’t want to graduate from this campus before you say that you know him.”
