Cowhide is a tradition that Redwood High School students have each year against Mt. Whitney High School. Freshmen and Senior cheerleaders share their thoughts on the big game.

The tradition is whoever wins the football game gets a stamp on the giant cowhide that has been around for a while. The school that wins also gets to keep the Cowhide until the next Cowhide game.

Cowhide is not only a big event for football players but also for cheerleaders. It’s a very emotional event for senior cheerleaders, as it is the last Cowhide they will experience. It is also the first big event for freshman cheerleaders.

Jiselle Travino, ‘28, shares her feelings on her first cowhide. She says, “It feels really exciting and I just can’t wait.”

Most of the freshmen cheerleaders feel excited about their first Cowhide and can’t wait to attend it.

Mia Reberey, ‘25, shares how she feels having her last Cowhide as a cheerleader. She says, “I’m excited but sad that it’s the last one.”

The majority of the senior cheerleaders feel very emotional having to experience their final Cowhide.

Amery Pena, ‘28, says, “It feels exciting but also I’m very nervous,” after she was asked how she feels going to her first Cowhide.

Some of the freshmen cheerleaders tend to be nervous about their first Cowhide considering it is an important event and there will be a lot of people attending.

The majority of the freshmen are very excited to experience their first Cowhide game, especially participating in one as a cheerleader.

Alexis Bartelmann, ‘28, says, “I’m very excited because my brothers have went here and I’ve went to all the games. and it looks like really fun.”
