On September 21, the Redwood Chamber Choir will be heading to a 3-day retreat where they can come closer together through music and fun activities held at the camp.

The retreat is taking place at Hartland Camp located somewhat south-west of the Sequoia National Park. Our Redwood Chamber Choir takes this trip every year to grow into a close community. The site allows for several interactive activities that can help groups grow closer together.

Benjamin Lozano, ‘24, says, “Mostly the purpose of chamber retreat is to unite our choir.” Lozano says that this trip not only allows the group to grow closer together but also improves them as overall singers. They are able to improve because they “trust each other more.”

Throughout this 3 day trip, the choir will be doing activities that build a general bond through singing and just being surrounded by one another. The retreat offers activities such as paintball, zip lines, and many more games. And of course, they will be rehearsing songs together on this trip.

Abigail Ogletree, ‘25, says the trip is to, “bond with everybody in the group just to understand everybody’s personality to get to know them better while singing, so you make like a family.” It’s an immersive trip that will allow the singers to both create a close bond and to overall improve as singers. Ogletree says she looks forward to hanging out with friends, to learn valuable lessons, and to make memories.

“I think that we are all going to learn the deeper meaning of our music and singing in general,” says Abrielle Zachary, ‘25. She says that the trip will allow the choir to create great chemistry between everyone, making them better as a whole. One might even say the bond is one of the most important aspects of the choir. Zachary says she looks forward to creating bigger bonds with the whole group the most.

Whether they’re in the middle of a paintball match or singing a meaningful melody, the trip will help the choir become a closer community that’ll be able to stick together throughout their musical journey.
