Mr. & Mrs. Ranger Week is an annual tradition that invites students to come together in a reflection of Redwood’s spirit and the lively community. It is an opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate Redwood’s school pride.
The tradition of Mr. & Mrs. Ranger was originally just involving a Mr. Ranger as a simple pageant in the 1980s. But has expanded in these last few years to include a Mrs. Ranger as well. What used to be a little get-together has become a whole week of Redwood spirit, fun games, and activities.

When asked what ASB is doing to prepare for Mr. & Mrs. Ranger week, ASB advisor Mrs. Hailey Aston said, “We’re working on the theme for the week and for the rally, as well as trying to come up with some really creative lunchtime activities that involve the nominees. Then trying to really lean into the pageantry of the Mr. and Mrs. Ranger rally.”
ASB is seeking outstanding students who have strong grades, but also actively engage in a wide range of clubs and sports. They must also demonstrate dedication, teamwork, and a passion for showing Redwood spirit.
When discussing what actions ASB is taking to prepare for Mr & Mrs. Ranger week, Chole Miller, ‘27, said, “We’re making posters and working on the rally so it can be an enjoyable moment for everyone.”
ASB is putting lots of effort into inspiring enthusiasm and engagement among students for Mr. & Mrs. Ranger week. They hope to get more students involved in the event.

Sophie Del Villar, ‘27 said, “ASB is working on posters, advertising, focusing on the main theme of Redwood as a whole, and Redwood’s blue and spirit.”
Last year, Mariah Villarreal, ‘24, won the title of Mrs. Ranger, along with Jalon Wilkerson, ‘24, who won the title of Mr. Ranger.
Villarreal said, “Getting Mrs. Ranger was pretty exciting to me because I had the opportunity to show people anything is possible. That is what my mom told me growing up, and what I believed. I was a TA for Ms. Baptista’s class, so those freshmen supported me, all my friends supported me, and to be able to get into that top 5, and then get that position of Mrs. Ranger. I’m just grateful for every moment of it.”
Wilkerson said, “Mr. Ranger impacted me because I felt like I was able to finally embrace myself into the school spirit and be part of the school’s history, and it was definitely something that motivated me to keep up with my work ethic, sports, and education just to go further.”
For the year of 2025, the top 5 nominees for Mr. Ranger are Jake Bettencourt, Cole Gilcrest, Javion Richardson, Kelan Anderson, and Cody Burton (all class of 2025).

Burton said, “Athletes Give Back nominated me because I’ve been an avid member for the last however many years I’ve been in. I’ve never missed a meeting. I always show up and I always participate in the meetings.”
Anderson was asked how he has impacted the club of the class of 2025. He said, “I mean it’s a senior class, so I feel like it’s just everyone that I’ve been going to school with for four years. It’s cool to know that my name is recognized and that people would nominate me for this.”
When asked how Gilcrest has made an impact on ASB he said, “Reaching things that other people can’t reach, like hanging up posters, etc.”
Bettencourt said, “I would say I represent Redwood through a multitude of things like water polo, FBLA, [and] calculus.”
For the year of 2025, the top 5 nominees for Mrs. Ranger are Chloe Seals, Ayla Morgan, Noelle Keck, Reese Huerta and Alexis Rico (all class of 2025).
Morgan said, “Redwood has made a really big impact on me. I think without Redwood, I wouldn’t be involved in most of the things that I have been involved in. I wouldn’t have joined any of these clubs that I’ve been invited to and can now run. I would never have started to do cheer and ever continued to swim without Redwood. So it’s just like really helping me to continue my extracurriculars and also make friends. I have tons of friends here that I never would have had without [this] school.”

Seals said, “I was nominated by FBLA. I’m a four-year member in FBLA, we conducted a voting with our officer team. I’m so grateful that they were able to select me and find me as a good representative for our club.”
When asked what the purpose of Mr. & Mrs. Ranger week is, Mrs. Aston said, “My understanding of it is to highlight two kids on campus, a Mrs. and a Mr., who really embody the spirit of Redwood.”
