The arts are one of the most popular elective choices taken up by Redwoods students, the arts can be done in many forms and one of the biggest events in the art and drama department is Redwoods yearly musical.

Camryn Deisman ’22 is part of this years Footloose musical, but this isn’t her first year participating in one. Deisman says that she “started participating in the Redwood musical Freshmen year, when me and my friends decided it would be fun since we loved to sing in choir, and be apart of them in middle school.”

For Deisman, the love of Musicals doesn’t start her Freshmen year at Redwood.

Deisman says, “The first musical I did was Grease in middle school, which is where I found a love for being in musicals. I had an amazing time in Once upon a Mattress so I continued to be in them all four years of high school, participating in Wizard of Oz, Shrek and now Footloose.”

Behind the scenes of the Footloose Musical is one of the most fun to rehearse for with friends.

Deisman ’22 says, ” I love rehearsing for the musical! Some of my best friends are in it too so it is just super fun to create the show with them, and I look forward to every time with them I get to rehearse with the cast!”

Deisman also shares her role and what she can relate to with her role character. Deisman plays Ethel McCormack, who’s a single mother, to Ren McCormack who is this years lead, played by Kylen Gray.

Deisman says “Since I play an adult, I feel there is definitely a difference between me and my character, but I feel that I always put a little of my own personality into the role. Ethel is a single mom, who wants what is best for her son, so I always try to bring out my more “motherly” and caring side when portraying the role.”

Deisman says “I’m SUPER excited! Footloose is so fun, upbeat, and entertaining show that I hope many people go see! I absolutely love preforming the show, and being in it with some of my best friends so I am very excited for an audience to see it!”
