Bo Rico Winter Portfolio

Bo Rico sports Writer

I am a member of the sports section for the Redwood Gigantea.  My stories are usually player profile piecex. I like telling athletes stories, and allowing readers to see a different side of an athlete than what they see on the field.

Semester 1 Stories

Wide Receiver Moses Burk Finds Early Success in the Upcoming Football Season

My first story was about Redwood Wide receiver Moses Burk and the great season he was having. The story worked out really well because Burke was racking up huge numbers at the time of the story's release and it was an amazing time to give readers an inside look into his life.

Cornerback Ambrose Bueno makes big impact for Ranger defense

The Ambrose Bueno spotlight story was a very fun one for me. I wanted to do a story on Ambrose because of the very special support system he has around him. His dad is a very big supporter of him, His dad would post content of Ambrose every week to hype his son and his team up. It was very interesting to hear Bueno talk about the impact his dad has had on him

Redwood Rangers Thoughts On Friday Night’s Close Loss

After the Rangers dropped their first game of the season I thought it would be a good idea to talk to the boys and see how they felt about the game.

Reflection

Where have I been?

Within the first few weeks of journalism class, I realized that the journalistic style of writing was very different to what I was accustomed to doing. I learned that journalistic writing only required about two sentences per paragraph. I also learned how to conduct an interview, and what types of questions to ask.

Where am I now?

I have three stories on the site, and one more that will be coming out in the digital magazine which is set to release in January. I'm happy with the stories I've written thus far. I think I'm doing a good job of telling athletes' stories and giving readers a better insight into who these people are.

Where am I going?

My goal for next semester is just to continue to write player profiles that highlight Redwood athletes. As for our section, I just wanna see us continue to cover sports in a detailed and professional manner.
