At almost 10PM on Saturday, February, 1st, news broke that one of the most shocking trades in NBA history went down. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks agreed to a trade that sent star Power Forward and NBA champion #3 Anthony Davis to Dallas, and Slovenian superstar Point Guard #77 Luka Dončić to Los Angeles.
The Lakers also received German Power Forward #14 Maxi Kleber and Power Forward #88 Markieff Morris from the Mavericks. Dallas received Guard #00 Max Christie and a 2029 first round pick from Los Angeles as well.
How do our fellow Redwood Rangers feel about this trade?
Cody Copper, ’26, gave his thoughts on the trade.
“I was surprised. I was in my bed sleeping and I woke up. I started crying and stuff because Luka Dončić is my king [and] my savior. [When] I saw him get traded for AD, [I thought that it’s] not worth it at all man. [I am] so sad.”
Aryan Mehroke, ’28, gave his opinion.
“It’s a massive trade, it’s massive bro,” says Mehroke.
Kamden Whitson, ’28, said his opinion on the historic trade.
“It’s alright. If I would rate it on a scale of one to 10, I would rate it like a 6.7, says Whitson.”
As you see NBA fans are still processing the most shocking trade of the century, but what is it going to do for the Lakers and Mavericks? Stay tuned to the the rest of the NBA season to find out!
Lorenzo Marcom, ’28, told his take on the trade.
“I’m going to be so for real; that trade was amazing. Lebron’s going to get his fifth ring this season. He’s going to be better than Steph Curry,” says Marcom.
Marcom also says, “Luka Dončić is going to get his first ring. We just got that trade yesterday with that guy in the Hornets, that’s been averaging 15 points. I’m ready. Dalton Knecht got traded though, so rest in peace, but at the same time I’m ready bro. I’m ready.”
