On Thursday, December 1st, the Redwood Band held their Annual Winter Concert. Held at the L.J. Williams Theater, the night was full of great music, with tunes such as “Sleigh Ride” and “March of the Toys” that were performed at the concert. With this being the last winter concert for the band students that are a part of the class of ‘23, they had quite a bit to say about the night.

Tiffany Mariscal, ’23, is a percussionist and when asked how she felt the concert went she said she, “had lots of fun and it was really exciting. [She] thinks everyone did great and the parents really enjoyed themselves.”

Fellow percussionist Adam Jeffries ‘23 says, “With such little time to prepare and only a few weeks to learn new pieces, [he] was concerned not everyone would get it down. But the music sounded great and all went very well.”

Many music pieces were played at the concert and most people had their personal favorites. Nick Schonken, ‘23, a brass member, says, “ [They] enjoyed ‘March of the Toys’ from ‘Babes in Toyland’. It’s one of those pieces [they] hadn’t heard of or played before [they] were given the sheet music.”

Jeffries, whose favorite piece was also “March of the Toys” adds that he “enjoyed watching the switch up between an imposing march, to a joyous one, to a beautiful ballad section.”

With the class of 2023 graduating this school year, the seniors explain how they feel about their last winter concert performance at Redwood.

Mariscal says she “is not upset or sad because [she] had a lot of fun with it and really enjoyed playing these pieces one last time.”

Schonken adds, “ [They’re] quite sad that this is [their] last winter concert. This is probably the last year [they’ll] do band, so there is a great feeling of etterath when yet another chapter closes. But, if [they] didn’t miss it, [they] would have never loved it.”
