On August 16th, Redwood had its first Rally of the school year. The Ice Breaker is a Rally is a way to show the new Freshman students about what Redwood HIgh School is all about. The performers, the spirit, and the culture.

Each year welcomes new performers in the performing arts sections. And this year the Redwood Dance Force and Band were able to perform for the students and staff at this rally. The first rally from a performers perspective is very much a different one from the viewers.

With dance routines that need to be learned and memorized and the pep tunes that need to be practiced and played, the rally played out very differently depending on which side of the coin you’re on.

On the band side of things, freshman Justin Estrada ‘27 had a very enjoyable rally.

He says, “It went way better than I thought, I thought I was going to mess up but I actually didn’t do too bad.” Justin is a tom drum player and really had fun playing pep tunes for the school.

Another Tom player named Izaiah Hernandez ‘27 had a different opinion on the rally, he says, “I didn’t like being in the rally because it was actually pretty long, we stood in the gym for a while.”

Hernandez did however really enjoy the music video that was presented, he says, “I liked when Dr. Gridiron was in the music video, it was super cool.”

As for Estradas favorite part of the rally he says, “ I enjoyed seeing the people fall during the flag games.”

And as for dance force new members, Amirah Najem ‘25 says, “It feels good I’ve been working really hard taking extra classes and private lessons but it was definitely fun showing school spirit.”

Najem loved the spirit and enjoyed just being involved.

Using the choreography they learned at the USA dance camp which they put a twist to, Ava Reynolds ‘27 says, “ It feels really good. I loved the dance, the energy was definitely up and I was definitely motivated.”

Nia Renteria ‘28 loves to dance and as her first year at Redwood says, “It was super fun but definitely a great time.”

The Ice Breaker Rally was a great way to kick off the year and show the new Freshman all the fun that Redwood had to offer. And from the sounds of it the performing arts students can’t wait for the next rally to roll around.
