On March 15, 2024, ASB held Redwood’s annual Buff ball game in the Redwood gym. 11 different teams of boys got to battle against each other to see who would be the last one standing.
ATL Trackhawks won the tournament, beating all of the other teams that were there that night. They put their blood sweat and tears into this tournament, and it paid off well!
Ahmed Aziz ‘25 says, “The feeling of victory is genuinely magical for us. To see our hard work and dedication pay off just shows how all the adversity we faced was completely worth it!”
Christian Carlos ‘25 says, “I feel ecstatic that my team had won the tournament. We put endless hours in and out the gym, practicing our technique till we became absolutely perfect.”
Although the team did an amazing job, and when the night was over they won, ATL Trackhawks had some challenges that they had to overcome.
Carlos says, “A couple of challenges that came across were some of our opponents. Their egos and trash-talking made us a little nervous until we let the game play out and won.”
“Yes, we faced many challenges, one of our wonderful coaches was unable to attend the event and it brought more heat on us to perform without her soothing presence, we also knew we had a target on our back and knew every team was gonna give us their best shot.” Says, Aziz.
Football, soccer, basketball, baseball. Sports all have their differences! Rather if it is the rules, the technique, or the setting of where it’s playing, they all have something fascinating about them. But they also are all very similar if you think about it.
Aziz plays basketball for Redwood. He says, “I play basketball, and the idea of communication and need for jumping was very similar to volleyball. The mental aspect was also similar as at times our greatest enemies were ourselves!”
“I play football and basketball and I think it’s very similar to volleyball. You work as a team and play in unison which allows you to win!” Says Carlos, a football and basketball player for Redwood.
As the night came to an end, ATL Trackhawks won the tournament, even going up against the teacher team. The team is very proud that they won that night, celebrating the big victory with each other.
Aziz says, “I enjoyed beating all the teams that were talking trash before the event, it felt good to see them sulk in agony after we were crowned champions. When I spiked it off Dr. Gridiron was also pretty cool!”
“Some proud moments were achieving our goal of winning the tournament and standing on our words prior to the tournament!” Carlos says.
