After COVID-19 shut down schools in 2020, Redwood ASB [Associated Student Body] brought school spirit back with a bang.
Kiley Langford, class of 2022, served as ASB Vice President. Langford describes the difficulty senior students had leading Redwood after the pandemic.
She says, “One of the biggest downsides to COVID-19 was the lack of school spirit. Coming back after the long break really affected the culture at Redwood and it was extremely hard to encourage kids to be spirited and get hyped for school events like before. It was hard to fill campus with spirit when the majority of kids didn’t seem to care.”
Despite the obstacles, ASB was able to adapt to COVID-19 restrictions and bring back school spirit.
Langford says one of the biggest accomplishments ASB made was the introduction of a Homecoming King and a Mrs. Ranger.
“Those are two brand new traditions that we have started at Redwood and hope to keep,” she says.
The senior students have put in a lot of effort to revive Redwood’s school spirit.
Langford says, “I think our senior asb members have done a good job in trying to teach the underclassmen [about] what Redwood used to be.”
According to ASB Director Hailey Aston, ASB’s seniors have grown as the year progressed.
She says, “[The seniors] had a lot of pressure to be the example to all of the underclassmen and they really took pride in that responsibility and made sure to teach and lead everyone in class.”
Aston is excited to see what the future holds for the senior ASB members. She says, “They are all amazing people and I will miss their fun personalities!”
