Elle Pinheiro, ‘26, has been participating in Redwood’s musicals since her freshman year. In last year’s musical, ‘Mean Girls’, Pinheiro played the ditzy Karen Smith. However this year she’s back on stage playing another ditzy character, Scuttle.
“The character I play is Scuttle, who is the seagull in ‘The Little Mermaid’. Scuttle is a very lively and curious character.”
In the show, Scuttle is presented mainly through physical comedy which Pinheiro says has been the most challenging part of playing the character.
“There’s a lot of different movements, and it’s just a whole different character. But, Scuttle is just very funky and fun. So that’s been definitely challenging trying to make sure to move and display just like Scuttle would.”
The thing that Pinheiro relates the most to Scuttle is their curiosity about the world. Pinheiro loves to travel and is also curious about the world around her.
While this isn’t her last musical, she is taking her experience from this one in order to prepare for her performance next year.
“Every year I learn new things, new things about backstage, on stage performing, getting in the routine of it all. Every year just prepares me for the next.”
For the future, while she doesn’t want to major in Drama or theater, she would like to keep it as a hobby.
To see Pinheiro’s performance, come see the musical at the LJ William Theater on January 23, 24, and 25 at 7 pm. January 25, also has a 2 pm showing. Tickets can be purchased here.
