Anastasiia Tkachuk
Currently I'm writing for the Arts and Entertainment section. I write a lot of stories about different performing arts, including Choir, Dance Force, and Color Guard. While being a journalist, I learned a lot of new things. I developed my writing and interviewing skills. I'm glad that I had a possibility to write for Gigantea and work in such creative and talented team!
Semester 1 Stories
2022 Fall Choir Concert Review
This story is about this year’s amazing Fall Choir Concert. The performance took place in the L.G. Williams Theater, on October 14th. All choruses were performing there, each one was performing three pieces.
While writing this story I developed my knowledge about how to create a review on events and what exactly should be written in it. At first I went to the concert, and then had to collect a little bit of information to make the story better and include more details.
This story is important because it tells more about choruses and memorable things at the concert and also everyone who couldn’t visit it had a possibility to read about it.
Dance Force and its impact on Redwood Culture
This story is about Redwood's Dance Force. It tells more about some of the members of it, their favorite things about dancing, and challenges they face.
For this story I interviewed two members of Dance Force. One of them, Bryann Block '23, has been dancing there for four years, while Sarah Sozhino ‘26, joined Dance Force this year.
This story matters because readers can learn more about the Dance Force and it's participants and hear the views of people with different experience and vision.
Mr. Carrillo about upcoming COS Fall Festival
This story tells about the COS Fall Festival. Choirs that perform there have a clinician, and this event is very important for talented members of the Choir.
For this article I interviewed a choir teacher, Mr. Carrillo. He told more about the festival, how everything is going to be, and what pieces the Redwood Choir will perform. Also he shared his expectations about it and what he wants students to learn about it.
This story matters because not a lot of people know about this event and why it's important, so readers have a possibility to learn more about it and get the Choir teacher's opinion about it.
Color guard looks ahead to 2022 marching season
It is my first story in Redwood Gigantea and it tells about the Color guards. Color guards are performing with a Ranger band and make a performance more spectacular.
This story matters because Color Guard is an interesting type of the performing arts and many people don't know about it. Members of Color Guard are sharing their experience, difficulties they face and some of the things they like about it.
Reflection
Where have I been?
Before I came to the class I thought that lessons will be more formal, and there we will learn more about journalism as a subject, different types of journalism and how to write some articles.
Where am I now?
I can interview different people without being nervous about it. I can understand how exactly I can make my story better. I can create a good story as I developed my writing skills during the semester.
Where am I going?
I want to develop my writing skills to make the stories only better. I want to write more stories and try to write some bigger ones.I want to cooperate with people in my section more, be helpful, and work on some stories together.
