Mock Trial is a club on campus that hosts faux court trials where students can take part of a stimulated court case where they can practice law skills. Redwood’s Mock Trial’s Yard Sale was held this past Saturday, September 15, 2018.
Noelle Andrews, ‘20, member of Mock Trial for the past 3 years, said, “We get to go to a court room and perform in front of a judge as if we were the attorneys or witnesses in a trial.” The students get to take on these role’s of professionals in a court room. Andrews said, “Mock Trial is an opportunity to get an experience of what it’s like to be in the position of an attorney or as a witness.” Mock Trial is a great way for students to see if law is something they want to peruse as a career. “This past Saturday we had a yard sale, we made over $800, just from donations and from the things that we sold.” The items sold were all donations from the team and from the Redwood community. Andrews said, “It’ll help us towards county or the various scrimmages that we go out of town for, so renting cars, gas, and hotel stays.”
Kenya Ochoa, ‘19, member of the Mock Trial, said, “It’s all about performance, making sure that you’re within the time limits because everything is timed that you do.” Mock Trial includes a lot of being up in front of a lot of people, so presenting yourself is key. Ochoa said, “Mock Trial means a lot to me because it’s given me the opportunity to meet new people, to be in a intellectually stimulating club and to have a lot of fun with my friends when we go on our trips.” Ochoa believes that Mock Trial is a great way to gain valuable life skills to help you in the real world.
