This winter season, six of Redwood’s Varsity sports programs competed for the East Yosemite League (EYL) title. Here’s how they all fared.

Boys Varsity Basketball won the East Yosemite League (EYL) title with a three-way tiebreaker. The Rangers came out victorious over the Porterville Panthers and the Monache Marauders, who all had records of 8 wins and 2 losses, due to the Rangers having allowed the least amount of points during EYL play, with 430 points allowed compared to the Panthers 480 and the Marauders 553.
The only two losses of the EYL season came to the Panthers both by 7 points or less. The biggest win of the season came against the Mt. Whitney Pioneers on the final gameday, by a score of 78-24 at the Pioneers gym.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team finished third in EYL with a record of 6-4, behind the undefeated first place Marauders, and the second place El Diamante Miners. Their only losses were to the Marauders and Miners in both the home and away fixtures.
The Girls Varsity Basketball team also finished their EYL season with a blowout win over the Pioneers, with their score being a 71-36 domination on home court.
On the pitch, the Boys Varsity Soccer squad also finished their EYL season in third place, with a record of 5 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws. Two of the three draws were scoreless efforts against the Panthers, and the other was a 1-1 tie at the Pioneers.
Some of the best moments of the Boys Varsity Soccer EYL season include two shutout wins over the Miners, by scores of 2-0 and 3-0, and a dominant senior night win over the Pioneers by a score of 3-0, where all 10 seniors started the game and contributed to the three goals in the first half.
The Girls Varsity Soccer team achieved yet another undefeated EYL championship, their fourth in a row. They only allowed 3 goals all season, one each to the Marauders, Panthers and Pioneers, while scoring 72, by far the best goal differential in the EYL with +69. Well above the second place Miners with +28.
Notable games include two drubbings against the Pioneers, an 11-1 victory away from home and a 16-0 win on senior night. The Miners were the toughest task for the Rangers this season, with those wins coming by scores of 2-0 and 1-0.
The Boys Varsity Wrestling team finished in first place in the EYL tournament with 276.5 points, their third straight EYL championship. The JV Boys Wrestling team also won the EYL title.

Three Ranger Girls finished as champions in their weight classes; Audrey Segura, ‘25, in the 145 pound class, Emily Carvalho, ‘27, in the 170 pound class, and Sophia Garcia, ‘27, in the 235 pound class.
Overall, three of the six winter sports teams won the EYL title. Good luck to all of our spring sports teams as they begin their quests to win the EYL championship.
