I am a sports and lifestyle photographer for the Redwood Gigantea. My journey towards photography started once I entered my Freshman year. I have learned just how important it is to be a part of the Gigantea. I, and many others, work hard to get our jobs done and get stories out for the people of our school. As a photographer, it is my job to take photos of whatever is needed and get them out for both our writers and viewers. My photos have been featured in our writers stories. Whatever it is you need, I will work hard and try my best to get the job done. Although I do not have much experience, I am proud to be a photographer. I'm proud of my photo galleries and the connections I have made with the other kids in journalism.

Semester 1 Stories

Photogallery: Football Friday Night 8.19.22

My first photo gallery includes the trackside life of one of Redwood's JV/V football games. I love taking photos of our cheerleaders, band, and color guard. The results of these photos always make me feel proud of my work. I like looking back on this photogallery, it reminds me of how much I have improved since then.

This story matters because it was my first job as a photographer, and my first photo gallery. It helps our reader community because they're able to look at it, and be informed with what the trackside looked like during the game. There might be viewers who couldn't make it to the game, and others who would just like to look back on it.

Photogallery: Homecoming Rally 

This photo gallery includes pictures from the 2022 homecoming rally. This is one of my favorite photo galleries, and one that I am very proud of, even though it is my second one ever. I believe one of my strengths presented in this gallery is my ability of stopping motion. Examples would be the water bucket game, and the sleeping bag race.

Homecoming is always a big thing for schools, so this photo gallery was definitely important. During events like homecoming, students will want to see all the content related to the topic. My photo gallery is there for students to look back on their 2022 homecoming.

Photogallery: Hoco Game Floats and Trackside 2022

This photo gallery includes the trackside life and the float showcase during our homecoming game. I love the colors I was able to capture in this photo gallery, and one of my strengths shown would be my ability to capture trackside life.

Much like the homecoming rally, this photo gallery allows students to look back on their 2022 homecoming. It benefits me as well, because I get to look back on this and see my improvement from my first photo gallery.

Photogallery: Freshman Football 9.15.22

This photo gallery includes photos of our freshman football team, out in the field, on September 15, 2022. This was my first time going out to take photos without my mentor. I had never taken photos of a football game before, and being by myself made it difficult. Nonetheless, I still got the job done and made this photo gallery. I learned from my mistakes, and I now know how to properly take and edit photos of sports.

This photo gallery is important to the freshman football team, because they don't get enough recognition. Everyone is always focused on the JV/V teams, so it's nice to be able to promote the freshman on our website, even if it's through a photo gallery.

Photogallery: Women's Polo JV and Varsity 9.28.22

This photo gallery is a collaborative one with one of our other photographers. The experience of shooting water polo was fun, and I am proud of how the photos came out. Looking back on them, I could've edited the lighting slightly better, but I still managed to capture the water motion.

This photo gallery is important because it was my first time shooting water polo. I hope to have more opportunities in the future to take photos of this sport again. The water polo players get to look at this photo gallery whenever they'd like, and the writers are able to use them in their stories.

Photogallery: Pinkout Game Trackside Life 10.7.22

This photo gallery includes the trackside life of Redwood's Pinkout football game. During this event, the Junior Cheer Camp performed with our cheerleaders. I enjoyed taking photos of them, they were adorable!! One of my skills presented in this photo gallery was the people. Each photo captures their eyes, which is an important aspect in photography.

This photo gallery is important because it is a record of our 2022 Pinkout game. Just like every other football gallery, students were, and still are, able to check out the content of this game. This also includes the friends and family of the Junior Cheer Camp

Photogallery: RHS vs GWHS 10.21.22

This photo gallery includes both the trackside and the football game on October 21st, 2022. This was my first time shooting our JV/V football team out on the field. Although it was exhausting, the experience was one I'll never forget. One of my skills shown in this photo gallery is capturing the football players while they're moving.

This photo gallery is important to me because it is my favorite. It informs our viewers by showing them what it was like at this football game. Not only can they look at photos of the football game, but the trackside as well. Every football gallery is important in their own way.

Photogallery: Cowhide Lunchtime Carnival 10.28.22

This photo gallery includes photos of our 2022 Cowhide lunchtime carnival. There were food stands, games, and even a petting zoo. I, and the students of Redwood, had so much fun during this event. I enjoyed taking photos, and making the gallery. My favorite subject is people, and I believe it was one of my skills presented in this gallery. You can see students smiling, having fun, and even doing their own thing.

This photo gallery is important because Cowhide is a major event. There are many people who like to view the content of the years Cowhide. Students were able to view this gallery at the time it came out, and they're still able to take a look at it to this day.

Photogallery: Club Day in the Quad 1.25.23

This photo gallery includes photos of our second-semester/2023 Club Day. There were students crowded around the quad, browsing or joining clubs left and right. I love getting to take photos of people and colors. There were many students and colorful stands and signs to take photos of. I enjoyed taking the photos for this event.

This photo gallery is important because it allows not only students, but people around the world to look at these photos. With each photo gallery, I get to provide information to other people. They look at this photo gallery, and it let's them know what Club Day was like.

Photogallery: Love Week 2023

This photo gallery includes photos of our 2023 Love Week. It includes photos of dress up days, decorations set up around the school, and our lunch time picnic that took place on Friday. This is one of my favorite photo galleries now, and I love every photo I took.

This photo gallery is important because it informs our viewers with what Love Week was like. They can also go and look at this photo gallery whenever they'd like, whether its because they want to remember all those memories that were made or if they just weren't able to be there. People from around the world are capable of visiting our websites and looking at our photo galleries.

Reflection

Where have I been?

Before I joined journalism, I had never even heard of the Redwood Gigantea before. I thought it would be a fun class where we would get to make stories of our school, sort of like a club in a way. I never would have guessed that it is so much more than that. Now that I am a part of the Gigantea, I know just how important we are. The class is very organized and everyone is serious about their work. We all work hard to get our stories out for the school and our viewers.

Where am I now?

I can grab a camera, and go out and take photos, whether it's sports, crowds, or anything in between. I can develop my photos on my own, and get them out in a gallery. Although I've only done it a few times, I can also go out and interview students and staff when necessary.

Where am I going?

One of my goals for next semester, is to not let my anxiety get the best of me. There have been times when it was a huge challenge/obstacle in my work. Another goal I would like to go through is to work harder, rather than letting my laziness consume me. My goal for my section (sports) is to get stories from our editors and my peers when I'm not doing anything.
