Redwood baseball made a return to the field on Monday with the first practice of the fall season. Joseph “Joey” Rico ’23 and Gavin Caetano ’24 are returning players for the Rangers.

Rico returns after winning West Yosemite League (WYL) Co-player of the year. His primary positions are Outfield and Relief Pitcher. Rico says his goals for the team are to, “Win the East Yosemite League (EYL) and find a way to compete for Valley as well, and have a good successful season and bond as a team.”

Caetano, Second Baseman, says he looks to, “Make varsity and get better.” Caetano also shares the idea of, “Winning EYL and having a great record.”

Incoming freshman Israel Llerenas ’26, First Baseman, says his goals are to, “Make the freshman team and become a better player.” In the first practice, Llerenas says he has learned, “That baseball is really a mental game and you have to be strong in that sense.”

Llerenas adds, “In baseball you should trust yourself more and not think about making mistakes because everyone does it.”

Rico says that he, “Wants to do his best to help the team out and help the team get a great record throught the season.”

Rico wants, “Everyone having an enjoyable experience and to bond as a team and as friends.”
