As October’s spooky season ends and the November leaves start to fall, students of all different cultures come together to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead honoring deceased children and adults. Not only a way to honor our loved ones who live in spirit, but also a grand way to bring the Ranger community even more closely knit together.
This Friday, November 8th, the Spanish Club will be hosting lunchtime activities in the quad as a way to honor their loved ones. “We’re going to have a lot of different activities to talk about [Dia de Los Muertos],” says newly crowned club President Liah Rodriguez, ’26.
“One table we’ll have the chips, another table we’ll give out bread, and another we’ll be doing a bunch of crafts,” says Rodriguez.
With the goal of bringing the Redwood community together, the club has planned on hosting students as well as faculty, with, “also having an altar in the quad where you can put a picture of your loved ones too,” says Rodriguez.
“You can be involved with the club as well, we have posters all around campus and on the remind, we’re always welcoming new people. We’ve got some really great members so far.”

Rodriguez says, “You should definitely go out tomorrow and participate, we’re really excited.”
Freshman Vice President Cathy Jaurrieta, ‘28, also has been putting efforts into the events taking place on Friday. When asked about Dia de Los Muertos, she says, “It’s a celebration of life that we want to bring to our community to know more about our culture and why we celebrate it.”
In an attempt to bring the celebration to life within the community, Juarrieta and the club are, “planning to give out bread and nachos for free and hold a bunch of events, and we hope they can enjoy.”
The Dia de Los Muertos Spanish Club celebration will be held this Friday, November 8th, in the quad during lunch. Be sure to make it!
When asked how a Ranger can get involved, she says, “If a student at Redwood wants to get involved they should just go to the remind, where we send out our monthly meetings and you can go and sign up to what we want to host next.”
